Compact Seeds and Clones S.A. (CSC), Registry No. 3-101-392993, is a company established in Costa Rica, which is dedicated to the development of high-yielding oil palm seed varieties and clones. CSC offers germinated oil palm seeds and ramets in the international market under the registered trademark ASD COSTA RICA^TM.

Since its creation, the company has supplied more than 350 million seeds (equivalent to about 2 million hectares of commercial plantations) in 45 countries in America, Asia, Africa, and Oceania, which represents about 8.5% of the total area planted in the world.

The prestige of the ASD brand and the growth of CSC worldwide are based on a work environment that stimulates innovation and the establishment of high-quality standards to meet the requirements of the international market. One of CSC’s greatest strengths is its extensive collection of oil palm germplasm, whose great diversity has allowed it to develop eleven seed varieties and five unique clones, with special characteristics for different environments and needs. ASD brand planting materials are recognized worldwide for their high genetic purity (99.9% of teneras) and high production capacity and are particularly popular among smallholders around the world.

Thanks to the high genetic purity of the ASD oil palm seeds, the producers receive, without any contamination, the high production genes for their commercial exploitation. This guarantee is backed by an advanced breeding program, which uses modern scientific resources, such as molecular markers and gene sequencing. In addition, ASD seeds are certified by the National Seed Bureau of the Government of Costa Rica, whose main objective is to guarantee the Costa Rican producers the genetic quality of the seeds they use, through periodic inspections of the production and processing processes. This local certification benefits all CSC clients around the world, as an autonomous state institution guarantees the high quality and genetic purity of the seeds they purchase.

Another important strength of CSC is its rapid response capacity; clients receive their germinated seed no later than 35 days after the sale is confirmed. In addition, CSC guarantees the physical quality of the seeds it ships around the world with high-quality packaging, which allows, if necessary, that the seeds can remain in transit for up to 15 days without losing their good condition.

In addition to providing high-yielding oil palm seeds and clones, CSC has also been very successful in transferring cultivation technology to companies and smallholders with no experience in the industry, through formal courses, and direct technical assistance on specific topics.
